It has been an interesting Easter Triduum here in St. Louis.  The Good Friday tornado certainly made an impact on our landscape but hearts and souls are all safe…  Here are some photos from All Saints parish in St. Peter’s where I spent Easter Vigil.

I am a pretty early riser which is a good thing for a photographer as the obvious light benefits are amazing.

The hard part of rising early is that I enjoy being still and quiet.  My daily routine of  rising to prayer and then sitting still to enjoy a cup of hot tea is a significant  helper to start my day off right.  Motivating myself to actually get up and drive the car looking for early morning beauty with my camera is somewhat difficult.  I must say, however, the benefits almost ALWAYS out-weigh the discomfort to one’s sleepy body.

Here are some photos from a trip I did last week.  They were taken along Route 94 on the way from St. Louis to Marthasville, Missouri.

I think one of my favorite things to photograph in HDR is bronze.  You can look at a sculpture in daylight and miss all the amazing colors which are hidden to our eyes beneath the green patina on the surface.  When you make your images and then run those beautiful algorithms in your “darkroom” it is like being able to “see” the world for the first time.  I imagine it is the kind of super eyesight only afforded to angels who must see the world with such amazing clarity…
